How to make the brakes light come on when brakes are applied?

I am in a tight situation. I have an old, really old antique car. I don't what brand of year. I am restoring in and in doing so, I came across the lighting component. This component controls the brakes light when the brakes are applied, but unfortunately it broke and it does not work. I am not sure if the sensor on the brakes work either. I need a simple way to fix that problem. If any one can help, I need to get the brakes light to work when the brakes are applied......Thank You
